Now that I'm on the road, my first outing took the form of participating in the first Midwest Vanlife Gathering. I must admit that my introverted nature created some initial trepidation, but as soon as I arrived that feeling melted away. If any future encounters with fellow travelers goes nearly as well as this one, I will be ecstatic. The people were so friendly and inviting, I really felt like I was part of a larger community.
At one point, we created our own little tour group that went around to many of the vehicles to see inside. A big shout out to Marsha for being the gregarious leader of our posse.
The weather was not particularly favorable, but I believe that was one factor that help cement that sense of community. By the time most of the vans were leaving on Sunday, there was a considerable amount of mud. I must express my appreciation to Bob, the Forest Service employee who winched me out of a little mud hole I managed to get myself stuck in.
Below is a collection of a few photos from the event. I'm certainly looking forward to the next one.
